People are intrigued by the emergence of zouk in Toronto. There are 2 distinct types of zouk: Caribbean zouk (African/French mix) which I actually grew up on, and Brazilian zouk, which is now all over the world, including being paired up with Bachata Festivals.
Caribbean zouk is danced in Europe during intermissions at salsa clubs-it's the equivalent to our b achata.
I never thought that Caribbean zouk would work in Toronto, but Brazilian zouk is for sure SO compatible with bachata and salsa! It's highly technical, yet dreamy, sensual and gaining popularity. There are 2 main branches: Rio-style, zouklove, zouk reggaeton, and then Porto Seguro and Sao Paulo style which include soulzouk, lambadazouk.
